Design as Research

Design at Zaiga Brutane Studio operates as an ongoing research process.

Each collection is developed through experimentation, material testing, and iterative making, rather than seasonal trend cycles. Garments function as both wearable objects and research outcomes — exploring how circular systems, upcycling methods, and local production can coexist with contemporary fashion language.

This research-led approach allows forms to evolve organically, responding to material constraints, availability, and wearability. Through this practice, the studio positions fashion not only as an aesthetic discipline, but as a critical tool for examining sustainability, authorship, and the future of material use.
